Surface oscillation and jetting from surface attached acoustic driven bubbles.

چکیده
We report on an experimental study of the onset of surface oscillation and jetting of bubbles attached to a rigid surface. The driving frequency is 16.27 kHz and the radius of the spherical capped bubble is 160 ± 5 μm. The acoustic amplitude is increased from 0 to 0.085 bar while the oscillation is recorded with a high-speed camera at 180,000 frames/s over 8100 periods of oscillations. The radial and surface modes are analyzed from a Fourier decomposition. With increasing pressure amplitude we find three regimes: pure radial oscillation, development of surface oscillations, and a chaotic surface oscillation regime. These regimes appear abrupt and are repeatable. In the chaotic regime, fast liquid jetting towards the rigid surface is observed.

Blood Brain Barrier Disruption by Focused Ultrasound and Microbubbles: A Numerical Study on Mechanical Effects
Introduction: Microbubbles are widely used as contrast agent in diagnostic ultrasound. Recently they have shown good potential for applications in the therapeutic field such as drug delivery to the brain. Recent studies have shown focused ultrasound in conjunction with injected micro-bubbles could temporarily disrupt blood-brain barrier and let therapeutic agents transport into...
متن کاملStudy on the bubble transport mechanism in an acoustic standing wave field.
The use of bubbles in applications such as surface chemistry, drug delivery, and ultrasonic cleaning etc. has been enormously popular in the past two decades. It has been recognized that acoustically-driven bubbles can be used to disturb the flow field near a boundary in order to accelerate physical or chemical reactions on the surface. The interactions between bubbles and a surface have been s...
متن کاملBubble Pinch-off and Breakup Due to Instability in Micro-jettting
This paper presents the dynamics of microbubbles that are pinched-off and breakup in micro-jetting. A microjet is generated in two bubble interaction when a laser induced bubble is impacting a static gas bubble in a microchannel. Gas layers with a height of hundreds of nanometer are pinched off from the accelerated gas bubble wall during the jetting process. They are further modified by surface...
متن کاملObservations of electric discharge streamer propagation and capillary oscillations on the surface of air bubbles in water
The propagation of electric discharge streamers inside bubbles in liquids is of interest for the remediation of toxins in water and plasma-based surgical instruments. The manner of streamer propagation has an important influence on the production of reactive species that are critical to these applications. Streamer propagation along the surface of electrode-attached bubbles of air in water, pre...
متن کاملDynamics of laser-induced cavitation bubbles near elastic boundaries: influence of the elastic modulus
The interaction of a laser-induced cavitation bubble with an elastic boundary is investigated experimentally by high-speed photography and acoustic measurements. The elastic material consists of a polyacrylamide (PAA) gel whose elastic properties can be controlled by modifying the water content of the sample. The elastic modulus, E, is varied between 0.017 MPa and 2.03 MPa, and the dimensionles...
